Use the meeting controls at the top of your screen to access different functions during Microsoft Teams meetings. Manage your mic and camera, open the chat pane, and much more.

Customize your meeting controls

Note

The redesigned meeting controls in Teams are available as part of the public preview program and might undergo further changes before being released publicly. To get access to this and other upcoming features, switch to Teams public preview.

With the redesigned meeting controls, you can organize your meeting controls the way you prefer. Move, reorder, and pin supported controls so your most-used features are easy to access. Core meeting controls, like your camera, mic, and screen sharing, are fixed and stay readily available.

To turn the redesigned meeting controls on or off:

  1. Select Settings and more teams-ellipses-icon > Settings settings-icon in Teams.
  2. In General settings-icon > Meeting calendar icon , turn the Redesigned meeting controls toggle on or off.

To customize the redesigned meeting controls during a Teams meeting:

  • Select, drag, and drop options in your meeting controls to reorder them.

  • Select More teams-ellipses-icon to open the meeting controls overflow menu. Right-click an option and select Pin teams pin icon , or drag and drop it onto your meeting control bar, to make it easier to access.
  • Right-click a meeting control and select Unpin Unpin icon , or drag and drop it over More teams-ellipses-icon , to move it from your meeting controls to the overflow menu.

Show or hide the meeting chat

To access the meeting conversation, select Chat  teams chat icon . From here, you can view and participate in the meeting group chat. To hide it, select Chat  teams chat icon again.

Show or hide participants

If you'd like to see a list of everyone in a meeting—or a list of others invited but not currently in the meeting—select People  People or Show Participants button .

The meeting participants will show on the right side of your screen. Above the list of participants, you can also invite someone to the meeting or share the meeting invite.

To hide the list, select People  teams people icon again.

Note

For video tiles under 250 x 140 pixels, an attendee's full name will only appear on hover due to size limitations.

Raise your hand

Raise your hand during a meeting to let others know you have something to share without interrupting the speaker. 

To raise or lower your hand:

  1. Select Raise raise hand icon in your meeting controls.
  • If you're using the redesigned meeting controls, select React teams react icon > Raise hand raise hand icon . To remove Raise hand raise hand icon from React teams react icon and pin it onto your main meeting control bar as a separate button, right-click Raise hand raise hand icon and select Pin teams pin icon or drag and drop it onto your meeting control bar.

Others will see that your hand is raised, and in which order it was raised if others have their hands raised.

Express a reaction

React to something someone is saying during a meeting by choosing an emoji reaction.

To react in a meeting: 

  1. Select React Teams emoji icon for chat .
  2. Choose the emoji you want to express.

When you choose a reaction, the emoji will appear for a few seconds in the meeting window for participants to see.

Change your view

Change how you see other participants by selecting View Gallery view icon  and choosing from different meeting views. See more or fewer participants at a time, prioritize people with video turned on, and more.

Change organizer controls

Select Controls controls-icon to adjust organizer meeting options during a meeting to change participant permissions, like whether they can share their screen, participate in chat, or use their mics and cameras.

Lock the meeting, enable the meeting lobby, and apply advanced protection settings for additional privacy in your meeting.

Take meeting notes

Stay on top of your meeting's agenda, assigned tasks, and more with collaborative meeting notes. Make live changes that others can view and edit as they're made and reference them later.

Create a breakout room

If you're a meeting organizer or presenter who's been appointed a breakout rooms manager, you can select Rooms  teams breakout room icon  to create and assign people to breakout rooms.

Use Copilot

If you have a Copilot license, select Copilot Copilot Icon for AI-powered meeting features. Prompt a meeting summaries, to-do lists, and much more.

Add an app

If you're a meeting organizer or presenter, you can select Apps Square containing plus sign  to search for and add an app for the meeting.

More actions

Select More actions More options button  to open a menu and access other actions you can take in the meeting.

Some popular options you'll see in the more actions menu include Start recording, Apply background effects, and Turn off incoming video.

Turn your camera on or off

To turn your camera on:

  1. Select the dropdown arrow next to Camera teams show video icon  to preview your video, change your background, and more.
  2. Select Camera  teams show video icon  to turn it on.

To turn your camera off, select Camera  Video call button again.

Note

Mute or unmute your mic

If you're already muted in a meeting and you'd like to speak:

  1. Select the dropdown arrow next to Mic  Muted microphone button  to adjust your sound settings.
  2. Select Mic Muted microphone button  to turn it on.

To mute your mic, select Mic again.

Note

Share your screen

To share your screen or other content during a meeting:

  1. Select Share Share screen button .
  2. Choose to present your entire screen, a window, a PowerPoint file, or a whiteboard.

Leave or end a meeting

To leave a meeting, select Leave  teams leave meeting icon . If you're the meeting presenter, you can also select the dropdown and choose End meeting. Only meeting presenters can end meetings.
