Slash commands let you quickly take actions with apps without leaving the message box.
Built-in commands help you navigate Teams, access apps, manage conversations, join meetings, and update your status. Simply type a forward slash (/) followed a command name, such as /chat, to get things done faster.
Some apps, such as those provided by Jira, GitHub, or Asana, provide their own slash commands. These commands let you complete actions in directly from the Teams message box. Built-in Teams slash commands are available only in Teams desktop.
How to use slash commands
- Go to any chat, channel, meeting conversation, or the search bar.
- In the message box, type / to open the list of available commands.
- Start typing to filter commands by name, description, or app.
- Press Enter or select the command using your mouse and follow the prompts.
Note
You may need to update apps when newer versions supporting slash commands are available.
Slash commands can increase productivity
- Run app actions quickly – For example, create tasks or start workflows directly from the compose box.
- Find the right command faster – Type keywords or an app name to narrow down results.
- Work across chats and channels – Use commands in 1:1 chats, group chats, and channels.
- Stay in your flow – Complete actions without switching away from your conversation.
